It’s 1985 and with two days to come of age and the final race of his stellar HS swimming career, Bo’s fiery mother breaks the news that his stepfather’s adoption papers were never filed. He must choose one of his three estranged fathers’ surnames before he reaches adulthood. and to offer his swimming scholarship,” the official summary of What’s my name again? Begins.
“Bo’s sordid upbringing, and each father’s influence on his tentative identity, teeters on his eighteenth birthday,” the sketch continues. The title argument sparks some good toxic masculinity, ending with his father literally fighting for him for the first time in his life. Bo flees south of the border on a voyage of exploration and debauchery with his budding mistress Alea and best friend Griff. The night leads Alea to confront the pressures of dating outside her family’s ethnicity, Griff accepts his emerging sexuality and Bo realizes he must clean up the slate to start a legacy of his own.”
Written and directed by Spencer Zander (this side) in his directorial debut, What’s my name again? Led by newcomer Ryan Wynn as Bo.
