Schwartzman learned how to wield the Lucky Magic
While serving as host, Lucky is destined to keep the Capitol audiences greatly entertained with not only his trusty bird Jubilee, but with a host of simple yet charming magic tricks. Filling the shoes of a young Flickerman scion, Jason Schwartzman already had to undergo magic training to be able to not only learn tricks, but incorporate the magician’s personality into his performance in the movie. He discussed it in his interview with Total movielavishing praise on the professional magician Tobias Dostal who trained him, while also admiring how the training itself gave him a new lens to look through, not only for the role but in real life.
“I remember sitting there when we were first hanging out and thinking, ‘I think this person is going to be in my life for a long time,’” he said. “I remember thinking it was changing the way I thought about the world. Just seeing what he was doing, what was possible, how he thought about magic and how magicians think about things.”
He even noticed how it has positively changed how he spends time with his kids.
“[It] He said, “It changes the way I interact with my kids, the way I play with them. Suddenly, I find I’m using little things I learned from Tobias to make my daughter smile. What I’ve learned are basically new ways to entertain my kids!”
The Hunger Games: A Song of Songbirds and Snakes Debuts this fall on November 17th. Schwartzman can also currently be seen at Wes Anderson’s Asteroid CityIt is currently showing in theaters everywhere.
