The show was produced by Team Downey, which is owned by Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, Susan Downey. HBO reported to Deadline its gratitude for Rhys and the entire team.

Although we won’t be moving forward with another season of the series, we’re excited to continue working with the amazing creators of Team Downey in future projects.”

About a month and a half ago, Downey Jr., after the season 2 finale debuted, was sharing the possibility of a third season during an interview. He stated that they had built an amazing world ready for more compelling stories. However, he admitted that the final word is not in his hands and that the continuation of the show is in the hands of others.

“I mean wouldn’t it be cute. I think Matthew and all the other people who fill him in front of the screen, all of our people behind the scenes, have built this amazing world that I know we can continue to tell really interesting stories about. We’d be lying if we didn’t say we were definitely talking to Michael a ton in Season 3, but our fate is in other people’s hands.”

HBO’s head of drama, Francesca Orci, also shared insights into the network’s way of evaluating shows for going on, taking into account factors like viewership relative to budget, critical response, and hype surrounding the show.

Looking to the future, Team Downey is working on another HBO project titled sympathizer, featuring Robert Downey Jr. in multiple roles. While it is a disappointing ending Perry Masonfans can expect the collaboration between HBO and Team Downey to continue.
