With so many franchises releasing late sequels, reboots or reboots, fans of the sci-fi series are in for a treat firefly He continues to hold out hope for a potential second season for the show that was canceled after one push by Fox.
Nearly 20 years after its premiere and finale, the Joss Whedon-produced production has become a huge hit for fans of the genre, who await the miracle of a delayed renewal for a second season even when a movie has been made after the first. But one of the major stars doesn’t see that happening.
Speaking to TVLine, actress Jewel Staite broke the silence on fans’ insistence on getting new episodes of the show and how much they’ve talked to her about it, even though she thinks it’s almost impossible to get a second season:
“I get asked all the time about Firefly season 2, which makes me laugh because it was 20 years ago, but when asked, I say, ‘There’s a better chance at LA Complex than Firefly.'” .. Oh, I just wanted her to be a mother. [Simon would be the baby daddy.] I think Kaylee would have made an amazing mom, and I love the idea of having a kid on board and raising the stakes so much. I feel like it would show different sides of each character’s personality to have a child around. I would love to see Captain Mal holding a baby and not sure what to do with it…. I feel like there is more than one kid out there. Kylie just wants to get as many as possible.”
In addition to Stait as Kaywinnit “Kaylee” Frye, the series featured Nathan Fillion as Malcolm Reynolds, Gina Torres as Zoe Allen Washburn, Alan Tudyk as Hoban “Washburn”, Morena Baccarin as Inara Sera, Adam Baldwin as Janie Cobb, Sean Maher as Dr. Simon Tam, Summer Glau as River Tam, and Ron Glass as Daryl Book.
What was the firefly about?
Set in the 26th century, the story shows a reality where humanity had to leave planet Earth, and settle in a new planetary system in order to survive from the devastation of home. All of this is under the rule of the Alliance, a powerhouse made up of the United States and China, who have joined forces to be the only two remaining global powers.
In this context, the series follows the adventures of the crew of the Firefly ship called the Serenity, led by rebel Malcolm Reynolds, who become embroiled in a civil war led by the distant worlds to prevent the rise of the Alliance. Castaway and determined to break away from the power of the current government, Malcolm takes possession of the ship to make his home.
So unlike any sci-fi element, Firefly is about a family in the making, people who don’t belong in the ruling regime and find their place among others like themselves.
Although not renewed for a second season, in 2005 Whedon was released SerenityIt is a movie that followed the events after the end of the series. Thanks to the film, the director was able to create a small franchise that included graphic novels, books, and more.
