that He. She A prequel series is in the works at HBO Max, but it looks like there may be a new actor taking on the role of Pennywise for the project. Of course, the previously popular Stephen King story was adapted as a TV series with Tim Curry in 1990. More recently, Bill Skarsgard He took on the role of a pair of He. She Films released by director Andy Muschietti in 2017 and 2019. Muschietti is directly involved in the prequel series, dubbed Welcome to DerryAnd the first episode will be released.
Very little has been revealed about the creative plans of Welcome to Derry. What we do know is that it’s set decades before the events of the feature films, going back to the ’60s and delving into the origins of Pennywise the Clown. It was reported that production will begin in April 2023, but as of now, no pre-roll announcements have been made. With Muschietti’s involvement, it also seemed likely that Skarsgard would reprise the role of Pennywise, but new comments from the actor cast some doubts about his return.
In a new interview with Jake Hamilton of The Jake takesSkarsgard was directly asked if he was involved with her Welcome to Derry And if he’s ready to repaint to play Pennywise again. The actor didn’t specifically say if he’s talked about returning, but did note that he’s not attached to the show at this time. He goes on to suggest that recasting could eventually take place, as he offers the advice he has for whomever ends up getting the role if that is what the plan is for. Welcome to Derry. As Skarsgård says:
“We’ll see what they come up with, and what they do with it. So far, I’m not currently into it. If someone else can do it, my advice would just be, do it yourself. Make it your own. Enjoy it.”
Will Pennywise be recast?
While it remains to be seen if a recast will actually happen, or if Skarsgard will sign on at Zero Hour, the actor continues to talk about how best to serve a potential new actor by going to the original novel for inspiration. That’s what Skarsgård did when he took on the role, as Stephen King’s original novel leaves plenty of room for interpretation.
What I thought was so fun about that character was how incredibly abstract he was. If you start reading a Stephen King book full of cocaine, you just go, ‘What the hell is that.'” And you decipher it, and that’s what I did with the character, and I really enjoy that aspect. Then I inform the character. The book is really a gift so if somebody’s going to take it, just go through the book and find all the clues. They’re there so you can kind of come up with to your own conclusions.”
