the Harry Potter The books cover a lot of characters and storylines. The novels were full of information about each character and how they play out in the larger story. Side plots that could easily be ignored in future installments will have the biggest payoffs. But the films did not have time to cover them all. The decision to focus primarily on Harry and his journey in the films meant that a lot of the characters and side plots were scrapped from the films because they didn’t fit into the narrative that each part had time for. despite of Harry Potter The movies are so long, they can’t even capture the entire essence of the books.

Max Harry Potter Rebooting the series will allow the franchise to expand on story lines that the original films simply didn’t have time for. As TV Report, the story doesn’t need to stick primarily to Harry’s perspective. It could hint at other storylines that the movies may not have been able to, not only due to lack of time, but also because the entire book series has yet to be published. Therefore, not everyone knew what to expect from the upcoming installments, as the books and movies were released simultaneously.

Pictures Warner Bros

Hermione’s campaign to help family members is a huge side plot Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Her belief that Dobby and the rest of the House Elves’ staff deserve equal rights leads her to act on their behalf without discussing what they want. It brings out an activist side to Hermione, while also playing up the confrontations he gets her and Ron out of. While SPEW doesn’t lead to any real change, it does have an incredible payoff moment for Hermione and Ron, when their first kiss in the book comes from Ron’s desire to protect the House Elves from war.

Regulus Black

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Sirius and Harry
Warner Brothers

Regulus Black serves more as a plot device in the final movie installments than it does in the books. Although Regulus was already dead by the time he was going to be a full-fledged character, brief flashbacks to the Black family could provide more understanding of Sirius Black’s family dynamic. The movies never explore the full depths of the Sirius family’s problems, even if they are referenced.

However, given that Regulus serves as one of the biggest twists in the story, devoting time to how his beliefs and transgression changed Voldemort was well worth the screen time, especially since Sirius considered most of his family evil.

The failed romance of Harry and Cho

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Harry and Cho
Warner Bros

In the film, the stormy romance between Harry and Cho dies. The two share no real affair, although it was previously established that Harry had a crush on Chu. After Harry discovers that Cho revealed the truth about Dumbledore’s Army to Umbridge, a major change from the novel, their relationship appears to be over. He plays a more important role in the books, as does Harry’s friendship with Hermione and how it affects his romance with Cho.

In the novel, Harry is shown to have no idea how to be a friend or how to be there for Chu. There is nothing tangible between them in common, and Harry’s easy willingness to leave Chu behind, especially during Valentine’s Day, shows he doesn’t quite understand what he’s doing.

Hogwarts while the trio are on the run

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
Warner Bros.

Hogwarts became very different when Harry, Ron and Hermione searched for Horcruxes. Things quickly turned sour with Snape as Principal and Crows as Defender Against the Masters of the Dark Arts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione only heard what happened indirectly, meaning the audience never saw what happened directly. A fresh reboot can fix that. Instead of showing the trio just on the run, the story could swerve and show Neville, Ginny, and Luna at Hogwarts and what they did to rebel against the Death Eaters.

Charlie Weasley

Christmas Molly Weasley
Pictures Warner Bros

Charlie Weasley is the only family member who has never appeared in the movies. While Charlie is never an important character in the books either, he does at least have the opportunity to be present and involved in the story. In the films, while referring to Charlie, he is never shown, and instead the film finds a way to skip storylines involving him without ever introducing the character. The MAX series could find the time and space to introduce Charlie Weasley and allow him to be more involved in the story.

bandit vs. snap

Harry Potter and the Thieves
Warner Bros.

Snape’s hatred of thieves is ingrained in the story. The movies explained some of her backstory, but not much of the information that the books provided. The MAX series can evolve based on those dynamics and how they emerged. Even though the Marauders and Snape won’t be at the forefront of the story, flashback episodes can still provide details about their rivalry, how Lily fits into it all, and what happened between everyone to create such a strong opposing position.

Visit St Mungo

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Harry and Neville
Warner Bros.

Going to St. Mongoose expands the Wizarding World beyond Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, Diagon Alley, and Platform 9 and 3/4. It provides greater opportunities to understand how the Wizarding World works, while showing that there is more to Neville’s personal life than others realize. Knowing that Neville’s parents are patients in St. Mungos, tortured into madness and can barely communicate, shows how the previous Wizarding War left Neville, compared to Harry’s parents who were killed.

Neville’s potential as the Chosen One

Harry Potter Neville Sword
Warner Bros.

The movies never discuss how Neville could have been the Chosen One. Voldemort’s decision to go after the half-blood wizard sealed Harry and Neville’s fate, but reality could have been quickly reversed. Although Neville hasn’t shown much hero potential for most of the franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows I changed it.

In Harry, Ron, and Hermione’s time apart, Neville has stepped up dramatically. Become the leader everyone needs. Inspired by Harry, Neville speaks again to the teachers, reignites Dumbledore’s army, stands up to Voldemort, and kills Nagini.

Snape full wallpaper

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Young Lily Evans, Young James Potter, and Young Severus Snape
Warner Bros.

When movies step back to explain Snape’s history, it’s often in the form of quick flashes to show things the movie needs to understand. Snape was once a friend of Lily’s. James, Sirius, Remus and Peter bullied him. Snape’s loyalty has always been controversial. But his childhood is part of the key to understanding Snape, and it’s one of the most important factors left out.

Snape came from a poor home life, and when Snape reveals himself to be the Half-Blood Prince in the movie, he comes without understanding how Snape came up with the name, seemingly revealing that he is a charming half-blood with an ego rather than knowing that Prince is his mother’s name.

Petunia Dursley

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix Vernon and Petunia
Warner Bros.

The Dursleys will never be the protagonists of the story. They’ve treated Harry too horribly for far too long for fans to want to see them at the forefront of the narrative. But Petunia’s story was far more interesting than the movies give it credit for. Lily and Petunia were very close to each other, but that all changed when they learned that Lily was a witch.

Afterwards, Petunia was bitter when she couldn’t attend Hogwarts alongside her sister, and while Lily had to go on an exciting magical journey, Petunia was at home with their parents, proud of Lily’s new adventure. When she points out that she’s lost her sister, Petunia’s last nostalgic moment ends up having a much bigger payoff in the book when the truth about their past is explained.
